A history of philanthropy:
- Since its inception in 2001, the Western Union Foundation has committed more than US$101.1 million in grants to more than 2,700 nongovernmental organizations in more than 135 countries and territories.
A culture of giving:
- The Foundation relies on the generous contributions from Western Union, its employees, Agents and vendors. We are proud to be a partner of choice for respected international institutions - and, increasingly, a charitable vehicle for consumers around the world.
A focus on education as a pathway to economic opportunity:
- The Foundation provides direct grants to NGO programs around the world that connect families with economic opportunity. We support education - including job training, life skills and language acquisition - as well as financial literacy and small business skills development programs.
A commitment to disaster relief and recovery:
- When a natural disaster strikes, people can count on us to help fund immediate relief. We sustain our focus on communities in need by supporting rebuilding efforts that spur the economy for a sustainable, long-term recovery.
Message from the President
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Western Union Foundation website. Everything happens for a reason and I believe that my background, past experience and future relationships with each and every one of you, will help us make an even greater difference in the lives of people around the world.
One of the key reasons why I joined the Foundation is that, by the very nature of its business, Western Union helps make life better for people across the globe. I experienced this firsthand – as someone who came to the U.S. from Haiti and whose family relied on Western Union. Remittances created economic opportunity for us, and ultimately helped me further my education. It’s this, combined with the company’s global presence, brand, and emphasis on shared value, that powerfully supports the Foundation and our mission to better the lives of individuals, families and entire communities through sustainable projects and programs.
This site tells stories of people whose lives were made better by Western Union Foundation giving. We are extremely proud of these achievements, but also know that the work doesn’t end there. There are millions more who, with our support, will be able to look toward a brighter future. We can help make this happen by continuing to find more effective ways to engage our Foundation partners and Western Union customers and Agents to help strengthen communities by creating educational and economic opportunity when and where it is needed most.
As we write the next chapter for the Western Union Foundation, I and my team will be looking to many of you for ideas and inspiration. I am eager to get to know you and am certain, that together, we will continue to build on the legacy of the Foundation – creating sustainable economic opportunity for the people most in need across the globe.
President, Western Union Foundation
