The Western Union Foundation

The Western Union Foundation

A history of philanthropy:

  • Since its inception in 2001, the Foundation has awarded $71.7 million in grants to more than 2,010 organizations in 104 countries.

A culture of giving:

  • The Foundation relies on the generous contributions from Western Union, its employees, Agents and vendors. We are proud to be a partner of choice for respected international institutions - and, increasingly, a charitable vehicle for consumers around the world.

A focus on economic opportunity:

  • The Foundation provides direct grants to NGO programs around the world that connect families with economic opportunity. We support education - including job training, life skills and language acquisition - as well as financial literacy and small business development programs.

A commitment to disaster relief and recovery:

  • When a natural disaster strikes, people can count on us to help fund immediate relief. We sustain our focus on communities in need by supporting rebuilding efforts that spur the economy for a sustainable, long-term recovery.

Message from the President

Luella Chavez D'Angelo

In the ordinary course of doing business, Western Union facilitates extraordinary good, enabling millions to go places, prosper and build better lives. Our service is an economic lifeline for families around the world - and a fast, reliable and convenient option for the so-called "next five billion,"

who choose Western Union to pay their bills, send prepaid gift cards to their relatives, or transfer money between bank accounts.

As a business, Western Union creates economic opportunity, a priority that is echoed in its community commitment. Through Western Union's Our World, Our Family® program, the company and foundation work together to make a difference - by giving, connecting with new audiences, and speaking out on issues that matter to the company's consumers and the foundation's beneficiaries. Since the Our World, Our Family program launched in September 2007, it has touched more than 1.85 million lives.

As a socially responsible company, Western Union believes in doing what's right, not just what's convenient. That's why we committed $50 million over five years to helping families reach higher up the economic ladder. That was our pledge before the financial crisis, and we're not backing down - after all, a 160-year tradition of responsibility through good times and bad helps set Western Union apart.

This website shares stories of our programs and impact, and provides a window into some of our corporate social responsibility efforts. We will be sharing - and doing - even more in the months to come, so please come back to learn more and find ways to get involved. Download the no-cost resources we are making available on this site. Add yourself to our e-mail distribution list. And give to our cause.

By combining strength and power of the Western Union Company and foundation, together with people like you, we can help create a world where everyone has a fair chance at a better life. Join us!

Sincerely,

Luella Chavez D'Angelo
